Just received this DVD today and like Mickey’s Broad Clubhouse Hunt and Mickey Saves Santa, this one is substantial and my 2 year broken-down son loves it. There are two other episodes on the DVD that we have seen on Playhouse Disney. There is the Dr. Daisy episode where Daisy tries to salvage her pretend dr. sticker and there is the Magician Goofy episode where the gang helps Goofy practice his magic tricks for the magic reveal. We’ve seen these several times before but my son mild loves to search for them. The Halloween episode is cute. I unprejudiced wish they would release more! If your tiny one is a Mickey Mouse lover then he/she will esteem this one as well, there is no doubt!!

To celebrate the upcoming Halloween season, Disney presents its third “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” DVD thus far: the eagerly anticipated “Mickey’s Treat.”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Mickey Mouse Clubhouse - Mickey’s Treat! Click Here

Suffice to say, this DVD is well worth the unusual sale note. In this DVD dwelling, there are three ‘Mickey’ episodes: the title episode(with the standard 24-minute length), the previously seen “Goofy the Sizable” (Goofy ineptly performs magic tricks with Mickey’s assist), and “Dr. Daisy,” (the gang pretend to have boo-boo’s for pretend Dr. Daisy), with the bonus of a cute “Petite Einsteins” Halloween episode thrown in for added measure. Instead of a music video this time around, there are some kiddie cooking recipes and a CD-ROM interactive feature as the special extras.

In the estimable title episode, Mickey & friends (Donald, Daisy, Minnie, Goofy & Pluto) are in costume for trick-or-treating at which time they are invited to succor troublesome pal Pete’s party. The episode subsquently shows the gang attempting to near in time the decorative Trick-or-Treat Tower for the party before the Tower’s gates lock per the magic Halloween moon (which acts as a clock of sorts) . As usual, Mickey’s mouseketools are needed for their meander, including an droll bit come the slay where Mickey displays his resourcefulness once again after Pete actually charges them ‘admission’ to his fill party (even though no one else bothers to present up) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Mickey Mouse Clubhouse - Mickey’s Treat! Click Here

Overall, I would rate the title episode as perhaps one of the finest so far in the “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” series, in terms of wit, charm, and the implied message that sharing with others does matter (even at Halloween time) . The other two “Mickey” episodes and the “Miniature Einsteins” Halloween episode are above average. While we would rate “Dr. Daisy” as probably the weakest of the bunch, it is detached better any time than having to endure an episode of “Spongebob Squarepants.” Further, let’s give Disney some well-deserved credit this time, unlike the previous “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” DVD’s, this DVD actually sticks to a generally consistent theme, and the presented episodes were mild relatively original.

As parents, if you are not already familiar with “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” we also suggest checking out the regular program first on the Disney Channel to notice if purchasing “Mickey’s Treat” is a radiant choice for your family. Having watched this program regularly with our infant son for more than a year now, our catch on “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” is that it is a solid (and educationally beneficial) program for the youngest children to plan, in portion because it introduces various problem-solving skills (in the perform of ‘mouseketools’) .

Unlike many children’s shows floating around on television, the computer-animated “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” despite outward appearances, is not simply mindless entertainment. To its credit, the prove is designed for interactive participation (where the characters ask the viewers for aid) allowing youngsters to join in on the activities. Now, while the science depicted is not even remotely realistic at times (which the intended audience obviously isn’t going to care about), the show’s lawful aim is to salvage youngsters to prefer the simplest concepts like counting numbers, reading alphabet letters, idea basic logic, being nice to others, etc. Frankly, considering other potential spirited ‘role models’ provided for children today, Mickey Mouse composed remains a sure influence you can trust. “Mickey’s Treat” exemplifies that trust.

At the time of this writing, the sale tag for the DVD is $14.99, which is an exceptional bargain. Paying pudgy trace ($19.99, maybe more someday) for it might require some further concept, we consider. Composed, regardless of whatever the notice is, at least with “Mickey’s Treat,” unlike all the other Halloween goodies out there, you won’t have to grief about your kids getting cavities from it.

In his devastating record, Darkness Visible: A Story of Madness, author William Styron recalls wandering the streets of Paris while suffering from suicidal depression, shimmering that he may never experience the city again. Louis Malle explores this same psychological wilderness in his 1963 film, The Fire Within (Le feu follet) . The film follows Malle’s films, The Lovers (Les Amants) (1958), Zazie in the Metro (Zazie dans le métro) (1960), and A Very Private Affair (Vie privée) (1962) . Based on the original by Pierre Drieu La Rochelle, Maurice Ronet (Elevator to the Gallows) gives a shimmering performance as Alain Leroy, an alcoholic writer at a rest home in Versailles. Uncomfortable and disillusioned with his life, Alain decides to commit suicide after first visiting his bourgeois friends in Paris one last time, where within 24 hours, and after finishing Scott Fitzgerald’s Babylon Revisited, he is even more resolved to kill his life. (The are many parallels between the self-destructive lives of Alain Leroy and Fitzgerald. Both are divorced, alcoholic writers living in Paris.) It is deeply affecting to sight Alain drinking at the Café de Flore, luminous that he is contemplating suicide, and colorful that he may never experience Paris again. The Fire Within is ultimately a unlit peer in despair and self-destruction, reminiscent in many ways of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s best work. Jeanne Moreau also stars as dazzling Alexandra Stewart.

The Criterion edition of The Fire Within features a newly restored digital transfer; interviews with director Louis Malle and actor Maurice Ronet; “Malle’s Fire Within,” a video program featuring interviews with actor Alexandra Stewart and filmmakers Philippe Collin and Volker Schlöndorff; “Jusqu’au 23 Juillet,” a 2005 documentary short about the film and its source current Le feu follet, by Pierre Drieu la Rochelle, featuring actor Mathieu Amalric, writer Didier Daeninckx, and Cannes festival curator Pierre-Henri Deleau; and a booklet featuring modern essays by critic Michel Ciment and film historian Peter Cowie. Highly recommended.

Very inspiring film well worth watching several times. Not as depressing as it sounds, it is about an ex-alcoholic, tired of life and/or unable to connect with other humans, visiting the friends who he primitive to party with for a last time. Aesthetic shots, bewitching characters, salubrious acting (also, Jeanne Moreau appears for a few minutes), Paris in the summer. All to the sound of Satie’s Gymnopedie…

While this does say it is the complete collection, it is only the second half of it. There is an steady Wolf’s Rain Box status available that does possess the entire series. This is not it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Wolf’s Rain: Complete Collection II! Click Here

This collection contains the last half of the expose and is, in my thought, the greatest plot of ending episodes in any anime I have ever seen. As Kiba, Toboe, Hige, Tsume and Cheza continue their search for paradise, getting continuously closer, so too are the nobles and Darcia to attaining paradise for their acquire means. As the humans Cher, her ex-husband Hubb, and the Wolf hunter Quent also become increasingly entangled between the oppressive nobles and the truth of The Book of the Moon, the setting is position for the most intriguing plot of episodes I have ever witnessed. By the time the series reaches its climax, an emotional attachment will have been achieved between the viewer and the characters that pulls you into the memoir and makes you truly feel for all the troubles and heartache they experience. The last half of Wolf’s Rain is filled with drama, action, suspense and surprise occurances throughout. There is unprejudiced no design you can inspect this reveal and not be in anxiety. I highly recommend this collection for anyone who is a fan of mammoth entertainment, anime or not. The epic, characterization, and train work (not to mention the extraordinary music provided by Yoko Konno) Wolf’s Rain will map you in regardless. So whether you catch the series in a two fraction collection or come by the plump box status elsewhere is up to you. Either procedure, you won’t be disappointed.

First off, I’ve impartial got to say, I loved Wolf’s Rain. This series is blooming. From the animation to the music to the dwelling. Everything is fantastic… I especially loved the waste to this series. Here’s why. (and I won’t spoil grand, so it’s righteous to read)

The first half of the series really pulled me in. It caught my attention and held it. But when I started to stare this, I really could not close, I watched this in one sitting. The last few episodes were astonishing. Good, there was a sure ambiguity to the ending, but all in all, everything was wrapped up nicely. As you learn more about the pasts of the wolves, Cheza, and the other characters and as they search out Paradise, things really commence to plunge apart. While watching this, you’ll be wondering, will they gain Paradise, what cost will they have to pay to come by there? And you’ll rep out. You may not like the extinguish, but I actually found it to be very radiant.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Wolf’s Rain: Complete Collection II! Click Here

The only thing I’ll spoil is this, you’ll probably need a kleenex or two…the last 5 or so episodes had me in tears nonstop.

Even so, I HIGHLY recommend this series to anyone willing to view it. It’s substantial.

As a child, I remember my mother watching this on TV every year. When I was slightly older, I became wrapped up in the magic of “A Christmas Carol,” and would eagerly await this version on AMC every year. I never understood why Alastair Sims’ 1951 version was heralded as the ultimate version; for me, it was too contrived, too melodramatic, and Sims chews up the scenery.

Buy,Download, Or Stream A Christmas Carol! Click Here

This 1938 version is a warmhearted recall on Dickens’ classic chronicle of greed and redemption. Bob Crachit’s family is given a greater role than in the unusual new, and the strength of the ensemble cast shines. Reginald Owen as Scrooge was a last-minute replacement, since Lionel Barrymore (Mr. Potter in “It’s a Improbable Life”) was ill. Gene and Kathleen Lockhart shine as the Cratchits (their daughter June made her debut in this), Terry Kilburn is a hyper but cute Petite Tim, Barry McKay makes a dashing Fred, and Leo G. Carroll makes for a unpleasant Marley’s ghost.

The sets of wintertime London are charming and varied, the costumes lavish, and Franz Waxman’s obtain perfectly accents tender scenes without overwhelming. This is the first time that the 1938 version is available on DVD (in its new aesthetic B&W and not the abominable colorized version), and it includes several brief extras: the film’s fresh theatrical trailer, 2 festive vintage featurettes: Jackie Cooper’s Christmas Party and Judy Garland Sings “Still Night” and the classic Oscar®-nominated cartoon Peace on Earth. Distinct to bring holiday cheer to your home, this improbable adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” shouldn’t be missed!

Buy,Download, Or Stream A Christmas Carol! Click Here

This 1938 film of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” is the “other” version of the classic Yule time fable, which is to say that when most people assume of the sizable sad & white version they have in mind the 1951 film with Alastair Sim. The 1938 film stars Reginald Owen as Ebenezer Scrooge, and if it is not a huge version of the legend it is tranquil a solid wretchedness. Owen made over 100 films in his career, playing first Dr. Watson and then Sherlock Holmes in the early 1930s and ending his career as Admiral Thunder in “Mary Poppins” and Commodore Dodds in “Bedknobs and Broomsticks.”

Buy,Download, Or Stream A Christmas Carol! Click Here

Almost exclusively a character actor and supporting player throughout his career, he got to play Scrooge when a last itsy-bitsy replacement was needed for an ailing Lionel Barrymore, who had regularly performed the record as a radio play each Christmas (similar to Patrick Stewart’s novel experience doing “A Christmas Carol” as a one-man expose before doing the 1999 made for television version) . Barrymore suggested Owen for the role. Of course, Barrymore would eventually play one of the greatest Scrooge-like characters when he was Dilapidated Man Potter in “It’s a Astounding Life,” but it was Owen who got his biggest allotment of cinematic immortality with this film, the oldest of the various versions of “A Christmas Carol” that is composed worth catching.

From a production standpoint MGM’s film is better than the 1951 murky & white version, but the latter has Sim as the positive Scrooge and that makes all the different. Unruffled, Owen is more than competent in the role and his performance is famous from the rest in that he clearly enjoys being a mean one more than any other Scrooge. In the early scenes, when Scrooge is able to give rotund vent to his feelings and before his ghostly open his spiritual rehabilitation, Owen makes this Scrooge the most execrable of them all. The rest of his performance is solid, but the early stuff is his best, although I do like his line at the ruin to his troubled nephew that he appreciates how considerable incompatibility a smile on his Uncle Scrooge’s face makes.

The production values are resplendent top-notch for this 1938 film, which was a fairly gigantic budget pains by MGM. The most familiar faces are those of Leo G. Carroll, who plays a textbook Marley’s Ghost (he would be the scientist whose experiment goes astray in “Tarantula” and Mr. Weatherby on television’s “Man From U.N.C.L.E”), and Ann Rutherford, who is the Ghost of Christmas Past (she would be Polly Benedict in the Andy Hardy series and Carreen O’Hara in “Gone With the Wind”) . The final judgment is not that there is anything markedly dismal with this version of “A Christmas Carol,” but honest that there are others that are better. Collected, fans of the record should invent a point of checking this one out at some point during a future Holiday season.

Fourth narrative arc, episodes 16~20.

The Roughnecks gape that there are more enemies than bugs in the universe. During their ongoing war against the Arachnids, the Roughnecks spearhead a mission on Tophet, a world populated by seven-foot large, methane-breathing “Skinnies”, a sophisticated alien hasten. Our heroes are welcomed at first only to scrutinize that the Skinnies are allied with the bugs and laying a trap for SICON. What follows are battles on this firey, volcanic world against the bugs and their allies. In the course of their adventures, the squad must rescue Razak, their leader and Higgins from deep in enemy territory; demolish in a unique squadmate, a stout heavily-armed robot; and sprint from a Skinnie prison. Eventually the Roughnecks notice that the Skinnies are being controlled by puny bugs attached to their necks and are unwitting pawns in the war.
This series of episodes continues to note the reliable CG animation and story-telling that distinguish the series. These episodes were tantalizing by two different companies (Foundation Imaging and Flat Earth) and while both do a stunning job, there is a limited incompatibility in visual style between the two houses that you can stare from episode to episode.
Once again the series adheres more closely to the Heinlein modern than the movie giving us the Skinnies first as enemies of Earth and finally as allies; it was mammoth to peek Heinlein’s creation brought vividly to life. As we learn in the Tesca campaign, one of these aliens will become a valued members of the squad.
Sony has once again stocked this DVD plump of extras that you won’t accumulate on most other animation releases, including commentary by the episode directors, computer animators, filmographies, and belief art. This DVD is a must for any lover of science fiction or CG animation.

Compare Prices on Breach

Breach is a nerve-wracking thriller. Based on a apt sage, its characters are nearly archetypical, a fact that gives the film, along with its extensive good ambiguities, haunting power. Here, it’s impossible to bag away from the great themes: religion, sexuality, psychology, and professionalism are at rotund and merciless play.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Breach! Click Here

The film is space and character-driven, without any special effects gloss. Most of it consists of dialogue between Robert Hanssen (Chris Cooper) and Eric O’Neill (Ryan Phillippe) . O’Neill is assigned to preserve tabs on Hanssen, providing detailed reports to Kate Burroughs (Laura Linney) . Mysterious deadlines loom, and Hanssen, a former of Icy War politics, is a tad suspicious of all the goings-on. Hanssen and O’Neill proceed from room to room, place to situation; each scene adds a layer of suspense. Further, both men have bright and complex apt selves. These selves are illuminated via startling combinations of beliefs and personality traits.

Cooper is unbelievable as Hanssen. To my mind, he’s one of the most bewitching of today’s male conceal personas, communicating a visible emotional depth and intensity that’s fraught with used edges. Ryan Phillippe subtly and thoroughly transforms himself through mannerism, explain, and expression. Linney’s Burroughs is, on the surface, as hard as nails; a more complicated personality is suggested when she delivers a few moments of much-needed humor, without which the film would be unbearable.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Breach! Click Here

Director Billy Ray has made a film that’s polished from begin to conclude. He and the screenwriters relate the yarn dispassionately, clinically; they give it an ambiance of objectivity but delay final revelations and easy summaries. Tak Fujimoto’s photography is fair true, particularly during that bridge sequence, when we gather a sense of how quietly and in what solitude people can be betrayed. As a whole, the film has a spirited, music-like structure.

The whole thing is unforgettable, and the extras on the DVD are astronomical. Descend into the suspense, but have a comedy ready to spy afterwards.

I served as a peek for CIA on three clandestine tours, and one of my headquarters tours was in counterintelligence, where I got to know unbiased how un-seriously CIA takes that topic. The dirty petite secret at CIA is that Ames was not the only traitor, a impress novel career trainee gave up ten or so of our Soviet agents in situation, all killed. In this movie, the distress that Hansen did is severely over-stated, and the facts of the matter are not as they should be, but I mild give this a five star rating because the movies is absolutely top notch on the personality details.

This movie is distinguished safe to The Estimable Shepard. The only other stare movies that really approach conclude are those featuring Alec Guiness as George Smiley.

The reviewers that cannot understand motive will never understand spys and traitors. One line in this movie really grabbed me–in it, Hansen talks about how “the US can be likened to a powerfully built but retarded child.” Throughout the movie, Hansen is cast as a devout even obsessive Catholic who cannot win people inside the FBI to realize how vulnerable they are, and ultimately I would effect from the movie that the motivation may have started as a desire to present a point, then a dead burn into addiction–making fools of those that would not listen.

The movie misrepresents the clerk as counter-spy. The FBI actually caught Hansen by going through his trash and finding the one notice that he failed to demolish. Composed and all the individual depictions, from the hardened solitary female senior special agent with no one in her life, not even a cat, to various others, are top-notch. Especially meaningful to me is the depiction of the loving wife that becomes suspicious and then unloving because she confuses her husband’s loyalty to duty and secrecy with inattention and being scorned, and of course that is rarely the case. Spies need loving trusting wives.

This and “The Falcon and the Snowman” are first rate. Anything with Alec Guiness as George Smiley is first rate. For amusement I like the more novel James Bond films, the Smiths, and Just Lies.

First all all, I have to say that I write a column reviewing DVDs and CDs for babies and kids in a itsy-bitsy monthly publication. As you can imagine: I’ve seen them all!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Los Colores De Rufino! Click Here

The A la Vibora de la Mar series truly stands apart in every sense: the resplendent images, the soothing music, the catchy songs, the consuming sound effects, the poems and rhymes… every cramped detail in these videos reveals a high quality production (this, sadly, can not be said for many DVDs in this category) . They also point to a deep notion of how babies learn.

I decided to write this review (my first one for Amazon) only because I am convinced that there should be at least one of the A la Víbora de la Mar titles in every household with babies under 3! (My enthusiasm comes not only from my research, but also from using this series with my maintain child) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Los Colores De Rufino! Click Here

Fortunately for babies, these DVDs do not intend to constitute a former foreign language program. (Do not quiz the “pollito-chicken” structure or the dreary repetition of words and phrases…) And this is fair gargantuan! Babies do not need language courses!! At this age, their brain is biologically prepared to win language NATURALLY… Anything else, may actually become more of a hindrance in his language-acquisition process. The best design to mutter your baby a foreign language (whether you drawl it, or not) is to reveal her constantly to the SOUNDS of that language as early as possible, hopefully before they are 3 (optimal: before they turn 1!) .

I can not emphasize strongly enough how notable this is. It actually constitutes the “trick” in language learning. Vocabulary and grammar can be grasped at any age: there is not a tremendous time-constraint for this: as adults, we continue to learn novel words and we can easily learn or accurate a grammatical structure… This is not the case with SOUNDS. If we were not exposed constantly, as infants, to the sounds of a foreign language, we may never be able to reproduce them (or even “hear” them… thus our impediment to reproduce those sound) .

So it doesn’t matter if you as a parent do not understand what is being said (babies who witness a DVD at an early age, do not understand what is being said in their fill language either… it honest doesn’t matter) . What matters is that the complete inventory of Spanish sounds is presented throughout the LOS COLORES DE RUFINO DVD, embedded in song and rhyme, not in isolated words and phrases, which, alone, do not benefit noteworthy during this stage. Furthermore, the sounds of Spanish in this whole series are presented in the type of speech to which infants reply best: melodic, soothing, rhythmic, using “parenthese” strategies, and objective a cramped bit high pitched… The DVD makes exhaust of repetition as a learning tool, but in a nice expedient design that is never dull.

Another plus: it is entirely in Spanish. This is completely smart in foreign language videos for this age range (babies 0-3) . Needless to say, only native speakers are interested.

Also from this series Do Re Mi Nino, 123 Cuentame un Cuento

I have been EXTREMELY alive to when it comes to teaching my children foreign languages, and I must confess I have bought everything out there to benefit me in this task (sometimes with better luck than others) .

So having bought every book, CD, and DVD you can possibly catch at amazon and elsewhere to reveal babies to the sounds of Spanish (and Frech), I can roar with a stout degree of certainty, that you will bag nothing better for the 0-3 age-group than Los Colores de Rufino, and the other DVDs in the A LA ViBORA DE LA MAR series. They are unprejudiced lovely… animated and titillating!

Los Colores de Rufino is completly in Spanish, as are the other DVDs in the series. Do not effort if you do not understand a word! I did not! But who cares! My kids, now 6 and 7 are almost fluent in Spanish! And that is ultimately what matters!

A section of advice: do not forget the age group that this series targets… 0-3.

Compare Prices on Beauty and The Beast - Criterion Collection

Jean Cocteau’s Beauty and the Beast (1946) is not only one of the greatest films I have seen - a perfect blend of poetic fantasy and psychological depth - it’s also one of my all-time favorites. The restored version from the Criterion Collection is among the best DVDs I have seen, both for the breathtaking clarity of the image and sound, and for a wealth of supplemental materials, including several captivating documentaries, essays in a lavish printed booklet, and Philip Glass’s complete opera synched to the film on a separate audio track.

With each re-viewing of Beauty and the Beast, I recognize fresh layers of Cocteau’s vision. As a child, I was enthralled by how genuine, and actually lived in, this fairy record world seemed. And I was spellbound by the Beast, brought fully, both horribly and tenderly, to life by Jean Marais’ riveting performance. I will never forget the Beast’s death scene, when Marais expresses worlds of hurt, worship, and self-understanding solely through the eyes peering out of a feral, hair-covered face.

The film does not need today’s digital special effects; it aloof works perfectly with its occupy low-tech but deeply resonant wonders. And it is a triumph of get. Cocteau worked closely with production “illustrator” Christian Bérard and cinematographer Henri Alekan to give the represent what he called “the soft gleam of hand-polished conventional silver.” It is filled with simple but radiant - and unforgettable - tableaux, from a corridor of disembodied human arms grasping candelabra that burst into flame as you pass by, to Beauty gliding in tiresome motion through the enchanted castle. Then there is the indefinable magic of the scene at the manor with astronomical white sheets drying in the sun, creating silhouettes of striking power. (Cocteau’s crew spent weeks searching everywhere for sheets without patches, an almost unheard of luxury in postwar France.)

Buy,Download, Or Stream Beauty and The Beast - Criterion Collection! Click Here

Technically, and aesthetically, it is improbable how Cocteau wrested so noteworthy visual interest from a film comprised almost entirely of medium shots. A conclude gaze reveals how dynamically, yet subtly, unbalanced most of the compositions are. We rarely survey a subject head on, but rather from a slightly skewed angle. And during some of the most necessary moments, Cocteau foregrounds an unimportant object (a candlestick, a tree branch) to block our plan, to originate our imaginations bear in the obscured main details. Throughout he also makes evocative utilize of shadows, both where you would request them, in the Beast’s mysterious realm, and where you might not, in the merchant’s strangely foreboding manor house. This tense visual quality meshes perfectly with the film’s complex emotional nature.

On one level, Beauty and the Beast is a perfect, and largely faithful, realization of a stout fairy account, originally written in 1756 by French author Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont while she served as a governess in Scotland. But Cocteau’s film exists on many other levels as well, which is why it continues to appeal as considerable to adults as children. There have been many interpretations, including symbolist, Jungian, Freudian, deconstructionist, and even blissful readings (Cocteau is not only a preeminent author, poet, artist, playwright, and filmmaker of the 20th century, he is also a central contented icon) . All of these views serve jabber the many, and sometimes contradictory, layers of Cocteau’s vision.

At its simplest and most whisper, the film paints a upright lesson as easily understood by a child as by most adults: Who and what you are - your honest nature - matters more than your appearance. We watch this conception embodied, in troubling ways, by many of the human characters, including Beauty’s two faulty sisters and, to a lesser extent, her wastrel brother Ludovic. But the most morally ambiguous character, and the one who gives the film much emotional depth, is Avenant. He is, of course, played by Jean Marais, who also performs the Beast and, at the waste, Prince Ardent. Avenant is strikingly lovely, self-assured, and energetic, yet Marais also brings out his darker side, subtly in his attempted seductions of Beauty and overtly in his fatal greed at the destroy. What compounds Avenant’s resonance for the film comes out in one of the final lines. Beauty answers Prince Ardent’s put a question to about whether she loved Avenant with a breathless, “Oh yes!” How, and why, could our heroine - who comes to inspect through the Beast’s fearsome persona to the torn yet superb man within - ever have been in treasure with someone like Avenant? That is yet another of the film’s emotional mysteries, the ones which may appeal more to, and perhaps even unsettle, adult viewers.

One of the most spicy, and visceral, comments on this film is musical. Composer Philip Glass (whose works include the operas Einstein on the Beach, Satyagraha, and The Voyage, and film scores Koyaanisqatsi, Mishima, and The Hours) situation Cocteau’s screenplay to music which runs simultaneously with the portray on the DVD, as the composer intended. The film’s fresh, magisterial regain by Georges Auric is one of cinema’s greatest; and Cocteau knew exactly when to utilize it - or silence - for maximum execute. But Glass uses his patented syncopated rhythms and repeated symmetrical sequences of chords to develop a haunting alternate philosophize for the describe. Sure from Auric, Glass’s win reveals the sometimes shaded and disturbing emotional subtext, rather than the fairy chronicle sense of wonder. Previously I had liked the opera as an audio recording; but when joined with the film I found it utterly compelling.

Beauty and the Beast is a film I recognize forward to reexperiencing for the rest of my life. It has a plan of getting under your skin, even entering your dreams. The closer you view at it, the more mysterious, and attractive, it becomes.

In this, his first feature film, director Jean Cocteau place a standard for filmmaking that not even he could surpass. A masterpiece of inventive, surreal imagery, this film captivates the viewer as few other films have. Haunting, lyrical, and inviting, this film retells the anecdote of an age worn fairy myth classic, “Beauty and the Beast” by Jeanne Marie LePrince De Beaumont. The film is sheer poetry in motion.

This fine, exquisitely rendered adaptation centers around the core of the fairy epic. An impoverished merchant (Marcel Andre) comes across a most current chateau, deeply hidden in the forest, where he is provided with hospitality by an unseen host. Upon leaving, he happens to crash off a rose from a rosebush in the garden of his reclusive host, in order to bewitch it encourage to Beauty (Josette Day), the most beloved of his three daughters. This simple act calls forth his previously unseen host, The Beast (Jean Marais), who tells him that the theft of that which The Beast loves most will cost the merchant his life or the company of the one whom the merchant loves most, one of his daughters. Allowed to return home temporarily, the merchant tearfully recounts what happened to him, and Beauty surreptitiously goes in his position to the enchanted chateau upon a magical horse that seems to sparkle with fairy dust. It is there that she, too, meets The Beast. Alas, the path of lawful care for does not accelerate smoothly, and Beauty and The Beast, together, fabricate that discovery.

Be prepared for a visual feast of dreamy shadowy and white cinematography, as well as one of the most unique sets ever to grace the silver hide. Living statuary, human candelabras, and tears that turn to diamonds are honest some of the elegant, surreal immagery that grasp the viewer’s breath away. Superlative performances by Josette Day and Jean Marais, as well as an satisfactory supporting cast, form this, indeed, a film to remember! Filmed in 1946, time has not dimished the ability of this masterpiece to enchant and captivate the viewer. Bravo!

Season 2 highlights:

Killing all the factual people- a controversial episode as the women learn a friend of theirs is dying from AIDS. Very poignant- and informative without being preachy.

Dash Goff, the Writer- we meet another one of Suzanne’s ex-husbands (real-life husband, Gerald McRaney) . He is a writer who is downhearted because his latest book is not being picked up. The girls succor him through this by enlisting him to design a book club in fragment to benefit Anthony and in share to effect Slither feel better about himself.

Stranded- Suzanne and Anthony are stranded in a blizzard in a motel. The antics that ensue are classic Suzanne and Anthony. Droll episode.

Keep the seasons coming- this reveal is a gem!

I assign it on for them for the first time, and they were all mesmerized.

Since then, they must have watched it 10 times, and fancy to talk about all

the characters. Even the youngest can name all the characters and the poor witch. Their parents (my children) were rejoicing in the fact that this was one movie from their childhood that has withstood time with its magic and appeal. “There’s no area like home”!

This was a big score. I as looking for a copy of “the Wizard of Oz” for my granddaughters and gathering all three films together was a terrific bonus. They have become tall Willy Wonka fans, a next generation! I know when they regain a bit older, they will esteem “the Goonies” as worthy as their parents did.
